William James Stephenson passed away Monday August 9, 2021. He was born October 1, 1930, in Butler, PA, the son of Raymond Stephenson and Mary Elizabeth (Magill) Stephenson. William was married to Mildred "Midge" (Schaum) Stephenson for 67 years.
He was proud to have served in the US Marine Corps as a service to his country. He was educated in Pittsburgh in the suburb of West View. Before moving to Poultney, VT where he lived for 40 years.
He was employed as a manufacturers representative by Starline Inc. traveling throughout Pennsylvania, before they transferred him to Vermont in 1967 where he established his own company as a manufacturers representative for 40 years until his retirement in 1995.
Bill and Midge moved to Florida after a brief but adventurous sailing expedition. Bill served on the local food pantry in Avon Park, FL. In 2010 he was instrumental in starting the Heartland Food Bank, the first ever in the county that is still active today. He was an active member of Rotary as a Paul Harris Fellow, Past President, and Foundation Chair.
He was a member of Tinmouth Community Church. He is survived by his sons Michael (Barbara), Christopher (Katherine), and daughters Erin (Gary) Rudd and Kathryn (John) Kappes, along with nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Timothy and his brother Don.
A celebration of life will be held at Tinmouth Community Church on September 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. He will be interred in a private Military Service at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT.
