Obituary

William H. Norton 85 passed away Saturday morning March 16, 2013 at Mountain View Center in Rutland. He was born September 28, 1927 the son of the late Leroy and Isabell (Niel) Norton. He was raised in Rupert. William was a United States Navy Veteran serving on the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Boxer during World War II. He was a Construction Worker and Roofer previously working for Quirk Brothers Construction Company in Rutland. He belonged to the United Union of Roofers, Water Proofers and Allied Works. William was a member of the Pierce County Sheriff's Dept. he also worked for Tapps Island Security both in the State of Washington. William enjoyed working in his wood shop making bird houses, mowing his lawn and afternoon coffee at Stewarts. William was a member of Poultney American Legion he was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of South Glens Falls, Ny. William Married Marjorie (Hopkins) Reed on January 23rd 1988. He is survived by his wife Marjorie, of Poultney. Also by his daughters Betsey Ingleston and Bonnie Bishop of Poultney. Stepdaughter Donna Sorenson of Edmonds, Washington. A Stepson Jim Shipton of Arvade, Colorado. He is also survived by several Grand Children and Great Grand Children. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Rupert Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to the Poultney American Legion or South Glens Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles. .
