Poultney
Steven Rocky Saltis Sr. 60, passed away June 25, 2015 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Rocky, as he was known, was born in Rutland February 14, 1955, son of George and Wilma (Diekel) Saltis. He graduated from Poultney High School in 1973 where he was an accomplished athlete, having been the captain of the football, basketball and baseball teams his senior year. Rocky was a 1,000 point scorer in basketball and a member of the 1973 Vermont Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl football team. He attended UVM before returning home to work on the family farm.
Rocky married Lorraine Fallar on September 3, 1977.
Rocky was a lifelong, hard-working dairy farmer and took great pride in being a farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and served as secretary of the Poultney Fish and Game Club. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine, his son Steven Rocky Saltis Jr., daughter in law Tara Saltis, brothers George and wife Diane, John, James and wife Missy, and Patrick, sisters Julie Rosmus and husband Dan, Darlene Miglorie and husband Victor, and Sonya Saltis, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, a niece Gwen Saltis and grandnephew Tatum Grimes.
Rocky touched the lives of many, was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 2, 2015 from 4PM-7PM at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Raphaels Catholic Church in Poultney with the Rev. Daniel Jordon as the Celebrant.
A reception will follow at the Castleton American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Poultney Fish and Game Club at 1073 East Main Street, Poultney, VT 05764.
