Ruth M. Roberts East Poultney-Mrs. Ruth M. Roberts, 89, died Sunday evening, November 21, 2010 at Misty Heather Morn Community Care Home in Hydeville. Born June 1, 1921 in East Poultney, she was the daughter of the late Wesley L. and Norma E. (Howe) Merriman. Ruth was a graduate of Troy Conference Academy/Poultney High School, class of 1939 and Green Mountain Junior College, class of 1941. She received her RN from Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1944, after which she became a head nurse at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. Ruth was a member of the Poultney Historical Society, United Methodist Woman, Evergreen Chapter # 63 O.E.S.,(now Fair Haven Chapter # 70 O.E.S.), Daughters of the American Revolution, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, Poultney Area St. Davids Society and the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Her hobbies were spending time with family and friends, being an avid reader, traveling and being a great cook. She is survived by her three children, Michael H. Roberts and his wife Susan of Rutland, Nancy L. Roberts James and her husband Bruce of Lyndonville, and Elizabeth A. Roberts-Burke and her husband Steven of Poultney; by her sister-in-law Ruth E. Roberts, of Shelburne, by her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Howell T. Roberts who died August 11, 1999 and by her brother Harry E. Merriman. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 1 P.M. in the Poultney Cemetery with the Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of First Congregational Church of Fair Haven U.C.C. officiating.
