Robert Wilson Mars age 73 passed away on Jan. 12, 2016 at his home of 45 years after a LONG battle with Alzheimers and Cancer. He was born November 22, 1942 in Granville, N.Y. son of Paul (Pete) and Margaret Mars.
Bobby, as he is known, grew up on Waites Hill Road in Pawlet at the foot of his favorite Mountain called Haystack.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Mary Lou (Pendriss) Mars whom he married at the Middletown Springs Community Church on July 26, 1969. Two sons James Paul Mars Sr. his children Jayme & Jimmy Jr. Mars also his fianc Jodie Parker and her two children Alicia & Ryan her grandson Payton Parker. Jeffrey Robert Mars and his two children Braydon & Riley Mars, all of Middletown Springs, Vt. A daughter Jana Marie (Mars) Petrochko and her husband Gene of Northfield, Vt. A sister Lynda Gould and her partner James Young of Guilford, Vt., also two wonderful brother-in-laws Marty Pendriss of Seattle, Washington and Mike Pendriss of Huntington, Vt. & many nieces and nephews.
Through the 1960s he worked hard at Jim Leachs farm, his Uncle George Sheldons farm, Danby Marble quarries, Wilson Rogers farm and in April 1966 was employed at General Electric for (33 1/2 years) retiring in Oct. 1999, he returned to do two years of 1000 hrs. He had many part time jobs while working at G.E. and one of those was his pride and joy when he and Austin Taylor along with Dorothy Kaviney in 1969-1970 remodeled THE BARN STEAK HOUSE IN PAWLET and BUILDING THE HUGE STONE FIELD FIREPLACE there. He taught his boys to work hard and take pride in their work. He also was so prideful of working on his lawns with his tractor. (His Uncle Lewis Seamans would always comment on it when he crested the hill on Rt. 133)
Bob received his education in Pawlet and Vermont Achievement Center (VAC) for deaf children. In 1972 he earned his GED while employed at G.E. he said, Best thing I could have done.
In his younger years he loved to hunt with his best friend Ed Hewes and the boys. He was an avid movie watcher and purchased many movies over the years. One of his favorite things in his last few years was he would sit on the porch and wave to everyone as they passed by. Many would inquire when he wasnt sitting on the porch if he was OK. Then, when his wandering started many caring neighbors would bring him back home.
There are no calling hours or funeral services. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 11AM-3PM at the Middletown Springs Fire House.
