Peter Jeffery Lenihan, age 67, passed away the evening of Thursday, August 10, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with esophageal cancer. Born January 12, 1950 in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of William S. Lenihan Sr. and Louise Isabella (Finn) Lenihan. Peter graduated from Linton High School in Schenectady, NY in 1968, excelling in basketball. He earned a scholarship and spent two years of college at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He married Bonnie McMahon on August 30, 1986 at the Poultney United Methodist Church. Peter was a truck driver for many years, retiring due to health issues. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid music lover and guitarist. He also helped others he met during his time in A.A. He was a life-long history buff, always wanting to learn more. Most of all he enjoyed time with his family. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Lenihan and their son Justin Lenihan of Poultney, his daughter Jennifer Lenihan Allocca, from a previous marriage and her husband Brian of New Boston, NH and their two children Makayla and Michael, his siblings Patricia Ayres and her husband George of Shortsville, NY, W. Scott Lenihan Jr. and his wife Jean of Hampton, NY, James Lenihan of Bristol, VT, Maryjane Conti and her husband Anthony of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was very thankful for the help and companionship of his dear friend and neighbor, Tracey Rupe. Per his request there will be no funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Haynes House of Hope 7187 NY Route 149, Granville, NY 12832. There will be a Celebration of Life reception held at Lake St. Catherine State Park on Sunday, August 20th from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm to the right of main bathhouse under the trees.
