Mary (Lynch) Mazur, daughter of William and Mary (Dooling) Lynch, passed away on Saturday February 20th at Rutland Region Medical Center, after a short illness. She was born in Poultney, VT, on May 28th, 1922, attended local schools, graduating from Poultney High School in 1940, and from Green Mountain College in 1942. She began her working life as a secretary to the president of Staso Milling Company. In 1951 she married John Mazur of Poultney at St. Raphaels Catholic Church in Poultney, VT.
Mrs. Mazur later completed her B.A. in Education at Castleton State College, and became a high school teacher. For 19 years she taught business courses at Poultney High School, retiring in 1988. She was a faculty advisor for the high school newspaper and the yearbook. She loved teaching and warmly remembered her students throughout her life.
A lifelong resident of Poultney, Mrs. Mazur was involved in many community organizations. She was a member of the Poultney Womens Club, the Garden Club of Poultney, and the Vermont Retired Teachers Association. She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Poultney Rescue Squad Auxiliary. She was an enthusiastic bingo and bridge player and had recently hosted her bridge club. She was an avid reader, she loved playing the piano at family gatherings, and she enjoyed completing the daily crossword puzzle.
Mrs. Mazur is survived by her brother, Dr. Michael J. Lynch of Granville, NY, her sister, Margaret L. Kohn, and her husband John, of Kansas City MO, and by her sister-in-law, Virginia Scott, of Poultney. She is loved and fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2008, and by their daughter Nancy, in 1980.
Calling Hours will take place at Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Avenue, Poultney VT on Thursday February 25th, from 4pm to 7pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday February 26th, at 10:00am at St. Raphaels Church, Main St. Poultney, VT. Reverend Daniel Jordan will be the celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring at St. Raphaels Cemetery.
