POULTNEY Marleta Zidovsky Campbell, 93, of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Poultney died on January 18, 2011, in Murrells Inlet. She was born on November 22, 1917 in Poultney, the daughter of Robert O. and Mary Jane Evans Jones. Marleta attended the Poultney public schools and graduated from Troy Conference Academy and Green Mountain Jr. College in Poultney in 1938, where she received the degree of Associate in Secretarial Science. After graduation she worked as secretary to the treasurer and continued in that capacity for three years until she and her high school sweetheart, Michael J. Zidovsky, were married at St. Peter and Paul Greek Catholic Church in Granville, NY. After their marriage she moved to Hattiesbsurg, Mississippi where her husband was stationed at Camp Shelby as a training officer. Marleta remained there until Mike was sent overseas for service in the European Theater. After the war they returned to Poultney to live and eventually raise their family of four children. Marleta was active in civic organizations as President of J. Claire Carmody Unit No. 34 of the American Legion Auxiliary; President of the Poultney PTA; Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America of St. Raphaels Church; and a member of the Poultney Area St. Davids Society. She took a job at Green Mountain College and served for many years as secretary to the Dean of Students. Following that she took the job as secretary to the President and served in that capacity until she retired in 1982. Her husband, Michael Zidovsky, died in 1976 after thirty-five years of a happily married life. In 1978 she married Ralph E. Colvin of Poultney and they spent their winters in Garden City Beach, SC. After he died in 1984 she was once again a widow for eight years. In 1991, Hugh N. Campbell moved to Poultney from Bristol, CT, and in 1992 they were married and lived in Poultney for seven years before he passed away after a long illness. Marletas love of travel took her to the British Isles, Bermuda, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. She also traveled widely in the United States including Alaska and Florida, but her favorite place in the whole world was on the shores of Lake St. Catherine at Camp Ke-La-Ma-Mi. She loved to read and was able to enjoy books until her final days. In addition to her husbands, Marleta was predeceased by her parents; an infant daughter, Mary Ann; her son, Michael John Zidovsky, Jr.; her only brother, Robert W. Jones; her two sisters, Thelma J. Bruso and Mary J. Fish Johnson; and a special cousin/sister, Laura M. Abt. Survivors include her daughter Marilyn Zidovsky and husband Jim Owen of Eaton, NY; a son, Larry Zidovsky and his companion Sandra Denofer of Fair Haven, VT; a son, Alex Zidovsky and his wife Pamela Jarvis of North Myrtle Beach, SC; a stepdaughter, Susan Campbell of Scituate, MA. Marleta is also survived by her grandson, Matthew Zidovsky of Albuquerque, NM; her eldest granddaughter, Amy Zidovsky and her daughter, Marleta Rowen of East Hartford, CT; granddaughters Sara Zidovsky of Watertown, MA; Lauren Zidovsky and her fianc, Marcello Rotta, and son, Matteo Rotta of Seattle, WA; Jessica Z. Storey and her husband Jesse, of Waitsfield, VT; Kathryn Z. Beach and her husband Adam, of Beverly, MA; step grandsons Evan and Nick Pestone of Scituate, MA; a special cousin, Norma Delfosse of Rutland; several nephews and nieces. Internment and the mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Raphaels Catholic Church in early spring at the convenience of the family.
