East Poultney, VT – Marjorie Steele Low, 91, died February 5, 2024 at her home in East Poultney, VT.

She was born August 17, 1932 in Quincy, Massachusetts, daughter of Walter Edward and Sarah (Douglas) Steele.

Mrs. Low attended public school in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School in 1950.

She was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston, MA until her marriage in late 1961 to Alvah H. Low. Upon moving to East Orange, NJ, she was employed by Liberty Mutual's office there until moving to Poultney, VT in August 1963.

Mrs. Low was employed by numerous companies in Poultney, including Green Mountain College, and, at her retirement, was employed as proofreader and typesetter by Journal Press, Inc., Printers and Lithographers, in Poultney. She continued to work part-time as a substitute teacher in area schools.

She was a long-time member of the Poultney Historical Society.

Survivors include her brother, Walter E. Steele, Jr., of Braintree, MA; a sister-in-law, Dornae P. Steele, of Weymouth, MA; two nieces, Christine Steele and Suzanne Steele; several cousins and her precious Russian Blue cate, Kitty Blue.

Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband, Alvah Hobart Low.

There will be no funeral or calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Roberts Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney, VT.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society.
