Margaret Mary Crandall 97, formerly of Poultney died Monday January 9, 2017 at Indian River Nursing Home in Granville, NY. She was born May 19, 1919 in Rutland, the daughter of Aldace and Mary (Reynolds) Pitts. Margaret attended local schools in Rutland and Poultney area. She was a member of the East Poultney United Baptist Church. Margaret enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, was an avid bird watcher and also enjoyed sewing and making butter from the Jersey cows milk. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors are her children, William Pelkey of Delaware, Wayne A. Crandall of Rutland, Rita Benoit of Richmond and Betty Hier of Poultney. Also by her 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Pelkey Sr. and Herman Max Crandall, also by her son Richard Pelkey Jr., by her siblings Samuel Pitts and Mildred Pitts. Graveside service announcement will take place later to be held in the Spring of 2017 in Pleasant View Cemetery, Middletown Springs.
