POULTNEY- Lonny M. Lamb, 67, a resident of Poultney and formerly of Fairbanks, AK, left for a better life on Friday, December 30, 2011 after a long battle with liver disease and cancer. He died peacefully at his home in the company of his partner, Rod Fielder.
Lonny moved to Vermont from Alaska after retiring from 33 years of service as the Superintendent of Custodial Services at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. His visits to Vermont with Rod and his love for old houses led him to move here. For years before moving to Vermont, Lonny was active member of Breadline Soup Kitchen in Fairbanks and the Clothesline Thrift Shop, donating his time to help those in need.
Lonny loved to go camping, and working in his greenhouse, growing tomatoes and cucumbers. He loved relaxing on the deck, enjoying the views of flowers, deer and turkeys. He enjoyed cooking and the company of friends and family. He had a love for eagles and collected them, thus naming his home, Alaska Eagle Farmstead.
Survivors are his longtime partner, Rod Fielder of Poultney, his mother, Marie; sisters, Parlee and Connie and his brother, Ken, all of Fairbanks, AK area; his brother, Lloyd of Wyoming; many aunts, uncles; eight nephews; great nephews; a great great niece and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Claude.
The family is grateful for the care provided by Rutland Area Visiting Nurses and Hospice.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at 2 PM at Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney. Another memorial service will be conducted in Fairbanks, AK at a later date. Burial will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to the liver or cancer foundations.
