Joyce E. Thomas Brandon, VT On March 1, 2012 in the presence of her family, Joyce E Thomas, our loving Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma left her earthly family to be with God and other family members that had gone on before her. Formerly from Poultney, Mom spent the last three years of her life with her extended family at Wintergreen Residential Care Home in Brandon, Vt. Mom was born January 14, 1921 in Castleton, the daughter of the late James and Delia (Steele) Whitmore. Joyce attended Castleton Schools and graduated from Fair Haven High School. Her joys in life were her family and cat as well as playing bingo and cards. She was an active participant in many area craft shows. Her other enjoyments were watching N.A.S.C.A.R. and golf. Mom was proud to be one of the longest active members of the Castleton Federated Church. Mom and our dad, Ed Sr., owned and operated EDS Taxi which operated in the Poultney area for over 50 years. Survivors are her children, Raymond Thomas, wife Doris, of Brooksville, FL, Robert Thomas, wife Laurie, of Rutland, Lynn Bailey, husband Greg, of Saratoga, NY and Sally Rowden, husband David, of Brandon, also by her daughter-in-law Linda Thomas, of Saratoga, NY, by her sons-in-law Buzz Ainslie, of Poultney and David MacMurtry of Florida and by her sister, Agnes Childs, of Florida. She had 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Edward P. Thomas Sr., sons William and Edward Jr. as well as daughters Phyllis MacMurtry and Joyce Ainslie also siblings, Olieta, Vida, Mary, Clifford, Mabel, Esther, James, Phyllis. Friends and family may call on Saturday March 10, 2012 from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, located at 266 Allen Ave., Poultney, VT. A celebration of Moms life will be held on Sunday March 11, 2012 at 1 P.M. at the Castleton Federated Church. The Rev. Robert Noble will officiate.
