Poultney – Jon "Jack "D. Roberts

Jon "Jack" D. Roberts 71, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester after a 2-month battle with Glioblastoma, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 13, 1954 in Rutland, the son of Gordon and Dora (Roberts) Roberts.

Jack was a Graduate of Poultney High School class of 1973. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He also served in the United States Naval Reserves as a Master-at-Arms first class from 1985-1989. He was abroad the USS Mahan for training purposes in Norfolk, VA.

He married Diane Champine on June 20, 1981 in Rutland.

Jack worked as a Police Officer for the Rutland City Police Department and then worked part-time for the Greater Rutland County School System.

He was an avid vegetable gardener who took pride in his harvest. He enjoyed being outside nurturing his plants and sharing his bounty with family and friends. Spending time at the family cottage on Lake St. Catherine with family and friends was a special time for him. Jack enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years, and enjoyed deer camp with the "boys" playing poker and telling tales. He loved taking his family, especially his granddaughter, for rides in his 1959 Jeep Willys around Poultney. One of his favorite things to do was spending time with his granddaughter doing different activities, especially cooking and baking with her.

Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 39 in Poultney, and had been a member of the Cairo Shriners.

He is survived by his wife Diane Roberts, of Poultney, by his daughter Kelly Russell (Wade), of Granville, NY, by his granddaughter Kadey Russell, by his brother Maurice Roberts (Susan), of West Barnet, VT, by his niece Jennifer Ullrich (John) of Barton, VT, by his nephew Jeffrey Roberts (Billy Jo) of West Barnet, VT, and by his brother-in-law David Champine (Brenda) of Fair Haven, VT.

He was predeceased by his parents and his father and mother-in-law Rollin and Betty Champine.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 10:00 AM in Poultney Cemetery.
