Obituary

John Alan Skovira of Poultney died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Rutland Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. John was born in Rutland, Vermont on February 25, 1954, the son of John A. Skovira and Joan R. (Pereault) Skovira. John attended Poultney High School and graduated with the class of 1972. He worked at Skyline Corporation in Fair Haven for most of his life, and then went on to work at Telescope Casual Furniture in Granville, New York for the remainder of his career. John married his high school sweetheart, Laura J. Stebbins, on October 8, 1977 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Poultney. Together they raised three children: Emily, John Michael, and Elizabeth. If you were blessed to know John, then you know what a kind, gentle, sweet soul of a man he was. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who was always there to give support and comfort in all of life's ups and downs. Our world will never be the same without him, but we will be forever grateful to our Lord God for letting him be a part of our lives. We pray that he may now rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.

Our family would like to thank the local and surrounding area EMS first responders who worked tirelessly on John. We sincerely appreciate everything you did. A special thank you to Rutland Area VNA nurses: Mary, Denise, and Karen who took special care of John over the past couple of years. We thank the doctors and nurses at RRMC emergency department for their professional care and kindness. Last but not least, we want to thank Fr. Zachariah Chichester, for being with us and praying for John as he crossed over from this life to the next. We were blessed to have your prayers and support in our time of sorrow.

John was predeceased by both parents, and a son John Michael Skovira (died 2009). Survivors include his wife Laura Skovira; daughters Emily Skovira of Poultney, and Elizabeth Crosier (husband Nate) of West Rutland; grandchildren Autumn Crosier, Aubrey Crosier, and John Michael Lauer; sisters Mary Skovira (husband Steve Maroni) of Burlington, and Judy Skovira of Colchester; aunt Sandra Rose of Ludlow; sister-in-law Deborah Leise (husband Joseph) of Laurel Maryland, several nieces and nephews, and many beloved cousins. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Raphael's Catholic Church 21 E. Main Street, Poultney, Vermont 05764.
