Poultney John B. Heald Jr. John B. Heald Jr. 71, died Tuesday evening December 19, 2017 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 28, 1946 in Meriden, CT the son of John and Rita (Levack) Heald. John served as the Adjutant numerous times, Service officer and Commander for J. Claire Carmody Post 39. He was Department Assistant Sergeant at Arms numerous times, Rutland County Commander, Fourth District Commander a couple times, Senior Vice Commander for 2015-2016 and as the Commander for 2016-2017. Additionally he served as Department Americanism Chairman a couple of times, Boys State Chairman, Membership Chairman, VAVS Committee Chairman and a member of the National Americanism Council. He also was a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 39 and a charter member the Legion Riders Post 39. John was a true Legionnaire in the sense that he cared for Veterans and their families. He is survived by his wife Joyce (Riss) Heald, of Poultney, by his children, Darcy Sheehe of Poultney, Chad Heald of Huntington, VT, Clay Heald of Wells, VT and Sarah Goodell and husband Eric of Poultney. By his sisters Faye and Tammy and by his grandchildren, Nathan, Emma, Kaitlin, Hannah, Loreli, Kiera and granddaughter-in-law Courtney. Also by two nephews and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a grandson Nicholas Allen Heald. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday December 28, 2017 from 4-7 P.M. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, located at 266 Allen Ave., Poultney, VT. Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 29, 2017 at 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in the Poultney Cemetery.
