James A. Durham, 82, died Dec. 15, 2014, at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield after a long illness.
He was born in East Poultney, Vermont, the son of Roy and Mary (Krall) Durham, on January 4, 1932. He graduated from Poultney High School, and entered the Army after graduation.
On October 1, 1960, he married Lucille (Woodbury) Durham, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Castleton. They lived most of their married life in Springfield, except for a few years when they lived in Essex Junction, Vermont.
He had a number of diverse and interesting jobs throughout his life. Among the jobs he held, he was a truck driver for the Swift Meat Packing Company, a short order cook for Howard Johnsons, a meat cutter, a photographer and videographer producer for sales at Textron, machinist at Jones and Lamson and a computer chipboard maker at IBM.
He very much enjoyed taking pictures and videos, and relished the time spent outside with his family and relatives at such places as his homestead, Watkins Mountain, the Land-Land and along Lake St. Catherine.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille of Springfield; his sons, Rev. DePorres (Charles) Durham, OP, of Madison, Wisconsin and Matthew Durham of Burlington; his brother, Edward (Margaret) Durham, of Poultney, Vermont and by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Darlene Mary Durham; his brothers Walter (Charlotte) Durham, Daniel (Esther) Durham, and his sisters Catherine (Ken) Brayton, Delores (Leo) Loomis, and Mary Ella (Ralph) Brough.
Visitation will be Friday, December 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave. in Poultney, Vermont. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Poultney, by his son, Rev. DePorres (Charles) Durham.
The family would like to extend special appreciation to doctors, nurses and staff of the VA Hospital and the Springfield Health and Rehab Center for their skilled, kind and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in James memory can be made to the Dominican Friars, Society for Vocational Support, 1910 S. Ashland Avenue, Chicago, IL 60608.
