Obituary

Gloria Virginia Marcy, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 22, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born in Mineola, on Long Island, New York on August 9, 1927. Known for her warmth, kindness, and wonderful sense of humor, she dedicated her life to her family, always there to help them in any way she could.

Gloria grew up on Long Island, where she met and married her husband, Joseph "Bud" Marcy. They moved to Poultney, Vermont in 1956 where she lived out the rest of her life. Over the years, she worked as Poultney High School's librarian, a librarian at Green Mountain College, and later as assistant to the Registrar at that same college. After she retired, she volunteered at the Young At Heart Senior Center in Poultney.

Gloria loved cheerleading at Oceanside High School, hitchhiking to the beach, Frank Sinatra, Bingo, bowling, the Bee Gees, her swimming pool, neighborhood coffee breaks, Coca-Cola, Esso Conventions with her husband, office antics at GMC, the movie Dirty Dancing, trips to Disney World, bakeries, her berry patch, reading, and puzzles; but more than anything, she loved her family and was always happy to help and nurture them throughout their lives.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Gary Marcy (Alicia) of Poultney, VT; Donna Marcy Reed (Elliott) of Newmarket, NH; Cindy Marcy Warner (Malcolm) of Bluffton, SC; Kathy Marcy Blanchard (Scott) of Northfield, VT. Also surviving are her 9 grandchildren and their families and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph "Bud" Marcy; her parents John and Frances Grohs; and her brother, Donald Grohs.

Her ashes will be buried with her husband's in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Middletown Springs, VT later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to: The Young At Heart Senior Center, 206 Furnace Street, Poultney, VT 05764 or to VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.
