IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank L.
Callahan
October 4, 1939 – January 26, 2025
Frank L. Callahan (10/04/39 – 1/26/25)
He finally got around to it.
Frank Callahan, aged 85, passed away peacefully at his home looking at the lake he loved so much. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace, and their son, Glenn. Frank's life was one of service, education, and unwavering love for his family and community.
Frank grew up in Freehold, NJ. After graduating from high school, Frank joined the Navy where he proudly served his country. Upon leaving the Navy, he went to Trenton State college, which is where he met Grace, the love of his life, and earned his degree in education, eventually becoming a fifth grade teacher. This is, no doubt, where he perfected his sense of humor. Living in South River, NJ and teaching in nearby Milltown, "Mr. C's" career as a dedicated teacher lasted almost 30 years, touching the lives of countless students whom he inspired with his wisdom and compassion.
Frank's commitment to service extended beyond the Navy and the classroom. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, scout leader, churchgoer, and avid traveler.
Upon retiring, Frank and Grace settled in their dream home at Lake St. Catherine. When they weren't cruising the Atlantic, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean or who knows where else, you could find them on their deck enjoying countless sunsets together. The lake became not only their home, but also their sanctuary, where they found peace and comfort.
Frank was also an active member of the local community, a trustee of the Lake St Catherine Association, an active member of both St Francis Cabrini church in West Pawlet, VT and then the United Methodist church in Wells, VT. A Board member for the Wells Lakeside Park. He also spent several years working with the VT State Police, teaching numerous boating courses in Wells and Poultney, ensuring the younger generation could better enjoy the lake he loved. He was also an avid wood carver and few were spared from his favorite past-time, which consisted of going up to random people he met, giving them a small circle of wood with the letters "TUIT" burned into it, and explaining they could use this the next time they were confronted by someone who procrastinated by handing it to them and telling them it was time to get around to it (a round tuit).
Frank was a "stubborn Irishman" who will be remembered for his self-proclaimed fifth grade sense of humor, his warm smile, his gentle spirit, and his unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and a profound love for life.
He is survived by his son Frank, his grandchildren Matthew and Morgan and Morgan's husband Tyler, along with his extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory and the lessons he imparted during his remarkable journey.
A memorial service to celebrate Frank's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region in Rutland, VT or to your local Hospice.
