Francis A. Kinney, 78, passed away peacefully June 15, 2017 after a brief illness at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Frank (Ozzie) was born January 27, 1939 in Poultney, Vt. He was a graduate of Poultney High School and earned an Associates degree at Adirondack Community College.
Frank proudly served his country in the US Navy as a Cryptologic Technician for 21 years until his honorable separation of duty in 1978.
His U.S. and foreign destinations landed him in Florida, Cuba, Japan, Maine, Spain, and Iceland. He and his family settled in Poultney where he worked for the Vt. State Department of Corrections before retiring.
Frank was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. Countless memories of family gatherings will always be cherished. He was a devoted fan of NCIS, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Raphael Church and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Taran) Kinney, who passed away September 8, 2013; his parents Osymn and Ruth (Stacey) Kinney; his brothers Edward Kinney, Elias Kinney, Osymn Kinney, and Wilson Kinney; and his sister Shirley Coombs.
He is survived by his sons Francis Kinney and Alan Kinney; daughters Sandra Langley and Patricia Powell; grandchildren Bryant Langley, Felicia Powell, and Eric Kinney; siblings Harold Kinney, Veronica Williams, Charlotte Pratt, and Loretta Vitagliano.
Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post 39, Poultney, Vt.
