Obituary

Poultney, VT Mrs. Evelyn H. Monroe Evelyn Haynes Monroe 91, died Thursday evening June 28, 2012 at her home in East Poultney. She was born August 13, 1920 in East Poultney the daughter of the late Harold and Lydia (Wiesner) Haynes. Evelyn attended the Little Red Schoolhouse, and was a graduate of Poultney High School class of 1937, furthering her education she was a 1939 graduate of Green Mountain College and also attended the University of Vermont. She married her husband Charlie Monroe on June 12, 1943 in the United Baptist Church of East Poultney. For over fifty years Evelyn and her husband owned and operated Monroe Brothers Dairy and the Charlie Monroe Farm Machinery in East Poultney. In 1999 she and Charlie were named Poultneys citizens of the year. Together with her husband they were life members of the Poultney Snowmobile Club also with the Rutland County Snowmobilers and the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers. Evelyn was also a member of the East Poultney United Baptist Church and a member of the Evergreen Chapter # 63 Order of Eastern Star now Fair Haven Chapter O.E.S. Where she was served as Worthy Matron in 1945 and had also served as secretary for over 36 years. Evelyn loved her country home, feeding the birds and attending to her flower gardens and spending time with her family, neighbors and her many friends. Survivors are her brother Richard Haynes and his wife Florence, of East Poultney, and also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Monroe, by her brother Harold J. Haynes and her sister Ruth M. Haynes. Funeral services will be held on Monday July 2, 2012 at 11 A.M. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Avenue, Poultney. The Rev. Norma Drosky will officiate. Friends may call from 10 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Baptist Church-Poultney, Village Green, East Poultney, VT 05741.
