Middletown Springs Ellen A. Moyer
Ellen A. Moyer 87, passed away Friday evening November 28, 2014 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
Born July 27, 1927 in Woodstock, VT the daughter of the late Harold and Ethel (Perkins) Austin. Ellen was a graduate of Woodstock High School class of 1945 and furthered her education at Castleton State College and graduated the class of 1949, then teaching then raising her children.
Ellen & her husband, John bought a farm & raised a family on Coy Hill Road in Middletown Springs. After 30+ years she moved to the village. She worked hard all of her life at the farm and later cleaning houses & other odd jobs to make ends meet, including her rug braiding business that spanned over 25 years, retiring at the age of 85. She sold her rugs in 29 states and 17 different countries. She also assisted in teaching rug braiding classes at the Gilbert Hart Public Library in Wallingford, VT. She was kind hearted, loving and always smiling. She so enjoyed visits and looked forward to getting letters in the mail from family and friends. She took great pride in replying to each and every letter. She attended the Middletown Springs Community Church and was active with the Round About Club and the Singles Club. The last four years of her life she lived with her daughter, Nancy.
She is survived by her children, sons, Glen G. Moyer and wife Deanne of Middletown , Larry D. Moyer of Middletown, Douglas J. Moyer and wife Phyllis Henry of West Chesterfield, NH, her daughters, Nancy M. Edmunds and husband Christopher of Middletown, Marie J. Benin and husband Menacum of Pittsford, by her son-in-law Richard Butler of Brattleboro, VT, her grandson Matthew Butler of Brattleboro, VT, by her siblings, Bettie Crandall of Windsor, CA, Harvey Austin of Wheatridge, CO, Kenneth Austin of South Burlington, VT and Robert Cushing of Framingham, MA. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Rebecca Butler who died in June of 2014, her grandson Patrick A. Butler who died in May of 2014, sister Margaret A. Berry and brothers Phillip E. Austin and David E. Austin and former husband John A. Moyer
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday December 3, 2014 from 4 P.M. until 5:30 P.M. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, located at 266 Allen Ave., Poultney.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday December 4, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the Middletown Springs Community Church with the Rev. Roland Mitcheson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ellens name to the Arthritis Foundation of VT or to Alzheimers Disease Research.
