It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ellen Irene Lurvey nèe Sumner, aged 75, at Rutland Regional Medical Center on May 30th 2025.

She was born on May 11th 1950 in Glens Falls NY to Charles and Irene Sumner. Ellen was a beloved resident of Poultney VT. She had a varied career from working in many manufacturing environments to providing home health care. Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family attending cookouts and going camping. She enjoyed traveling and loved spending time sitting in her garden in the spring and summer watching the birds. She had a passion for shopping and thrifting for purses and collectible frogs. Ellen was a spirited and tenacious woman and her zest for life and strength will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children, Richard Sumner of Hampton NY, Robin Wanamaker of Poultney VT, Stan Fosmer and Ralena Whittemore of Hampton NY, and Bonnie and James Wright of East Poultney VT; her grandsons, Christopher Fosmer of Poultney VT and Douglas Fosmer of Castleton VT and many other beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Steve and Birdy Sumner of Queensbury NY, Charles Sumner and Mary of Texas, Bonnie Manney of Stoney Creek NY, Dody and Steve Thetford of Queensbury NY and Mable Colombe of Hudson Falls NY along with many other loved family members and friends.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents Charles and Irene Sumner of Queensbury NY, her siblings George and Carol Hack of Texas, Robert Sumner of Queensbury, Diane and Earl McQuain of Lake George NY and her grandson David Fleury of Poultney.

A Celebration of Life is being held by the family at Bomoseen State Park, Bomoseen VT on August 24, 2025 tentatively at 12pm. Feel free to contact family directly with any questions.
