Edward J. Durham, 94, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Rutland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Rutland He was born July 11, 1923 in East Poultney, the son of Patrick Leroy and Mary (Krall) Durham. Ed graduated from Poultney High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Army serving in the European theatre during World War II. After his discharge, he and his brother Walter operated a dairy farm on Finel Hollow Rd. Ed met his wife Margaret in 1948 at a Dairymens League Young Co-op meeting in Pittsford, VT. They were married in 1949. In 1962 he moved his growing family to the Durham family home in East Poultney and worked as a Rural Carrier for the USPS until his retirement. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Raphaels Catholic Church and past president of the St. Raphaels Mens Club. He was a member of the Granville, NY Post 1655 VFW and a member and past Commander of Post 39 of the American Legion in Poultney. Ed is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret (Candon) Durham of Poultney; sons, Edward Jr. and MaryEllen Durham and Michael and Marianne Durham both of Raleigh, NC; daughters, Mary and Ed Preseau of Poultney VT, Elizabeth and Tim Nichols of Granville NY, Catherine and Dave Richards of St. Albans VT, Margaret and Ken Thomas of Winooski VT Marcia and John Weger of Baton Rouge LA, Bridget Durham of Flagstaff AZ, Julie and Ted Lewis of Shelburne VT; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Walter, Daniel and James, sisters Catherine Brayton, Dolores Loomis, Mary Ella Brough and Grandson, Gregory Richards. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sat. July 7, 2018 at 10AM at St. Raphaels Catholic Church with the Rev. Lourduraja Simeone H. G.N. Visiting hours will be held on Friday July 6, 2018 from 4-7PM at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home at 266 Allen Ave. , Poultney, VT.
