IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas L.
Trude
September 22, 1947 – July 13, 2024
Douglas Trude, 76, of Rutland, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, July 13th. He was born September 22, 1947 in Rockville Centre, New York to Anne and Frederick Trude. Douglas was a proud veteran of the Vietnam war. He loved travel, karaoke, trivia, church, and most of all, his family. He was a jack of all trades, a licensed master electrician, and a carpenter. He and his late wife, Barbara, moved from Long Island, New York to Poultney, Vermont in 1985. When they retired in 2012, they moved to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, where they founded and ran a soup kitchen for their community. They lived there happily until the pandemic, and Barbara's health, brought them home to family in September of 2020. Douglas was a kind hearted soul – always there for someone in need. He and Barbara often opened their home to people who were down on their luck.
He is survived by his 5 children: Jeff Trude (Lori), of Rocky Point, New York; Illissa Trude of Fair Haven, Adam Trude (Sarah) of Westfield, Massachusetts, Chris Trude of Poultney, and Meredith Fletcher (Diana) of Poultney; his brother, Jan Trude (Connie) of Mastic Beach, New York; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and their children.
Douglas was the predeceased by his parents, and his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara Trude.
A celebration of life will be on August 3, 2024 at 10:00 am at Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave. Poultney, VT.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the BROC-Rutland Food Shelf or the Rutland Community Cupboard.
