Obituary

HAMPTON, NY-Don Duck West, 78, died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Glen Falls Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Hampton, NY October 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Herbert and Agnes (Sheldon) West. Don lived in Hampton all his life except when he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked in the quarry industry and then went to work for the Washington County Highway Department where he retired after 26 years of service. Don was a charter member of the Hampton Fire Department, a life member of Falvey-Fringo Post # 1653 of Granville, NY and J. Clare Carmody Post # 39 of Poultney, VT. He was a member of Sea Local 100 AFSCMEALF-CIO of Albany, NY.. Don is survived by his wife, June (Hughes) West whom he married September 3, 1960 of Hampton; his daughter Debra West of Hampton and a grandson. In addition he is survived by a brother, Roger West of Castleton, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Herbert West, Dwane Sheldon West and Gordon West and a sister Evlyn Belden. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted in the spring at Brown Cemetery, West Fort Ann, NY. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the United Baptist Church or Poultney Rescue Squad. Arrangements are under the direction of Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney, VT .
