Hampton, NY After a long illness Diane Flood of Hampton died at the home of her companion Kevin Hogan on June 20, 2011. Diane was born in Rutland on June 9, 1952, the daughter of Francis Gilman, Sr. and Margaret (Diagneault) Gilman. She graduated from Rutland High School class of 1970 and from Castleton State College class of 1974. Following graduation, Diane worked at Central Vermont Public Service and Vermont Electrical, until her retirement in 1998. After that, she worked at Fair Haven Union High School as the administrative assistant to the principal until her death. Diane is survived by her friend and companion Kevin Hogan; her parents Francis Gilman of Rutland and Margaret Daigneault of Middletown Springs; her brothers Francis Gilman Jr. of Rutland and Edward Gilman of West Rutland; numerous nieces and nephews; friends, colleagues and students who loved her dearly. Diane nurtured all that grew and breathed on this green earth. Her sheep, goats and llamas; her cats and dogs; her chickens and rabbits; and her gardens and relationships flourished from her care. She spent late winter and spring making sure all would find comfort and sanctuary after her death. She reassured those who loved her that she was prepared to die, inviting them to share the final moments of her life. And as this years graduation drew near, she wanted nothing more than to live long enough to see those children she had grown to love, graduate. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass in her honor will be celebrated at a future date. Her remains will be cremated.
