Allen D. Fortier,83, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at his home following a period of failing health.
Born in Waterbury, CT October 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Oscar E. and Mary Elizabeth (Camron) Fortier.
Allen was a retired truck driver for Whipple Transportation. He had served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He was a member of Post # 50 American Legion of Castleton, the Eagles of Fair Haven , the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Young at Heart Senior Center.
Allen was a Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed NASCAR.
Surviving family members include his wife, Linda VanLew of Poultney; one son Frank E. Fortier and his wife Martha of Irvine, CA; one daughter, Connie Munukka of Derby; two stepsons, James Shaw and his wife Danielle of North Granville and Mark Shaw of Rutland; two stepdaughters, Lisa Bizon and her husband Mike of Hubbardton and Melissa Morgan of Fair Haven; one brother, Oscar E. Fortier of California; three sisters, Elizabeth of Florida, Mary Katherine Kay of Florida and Rita of Hampton, NY; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren and one great grandson.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Frank E. , John T. and Lewis C. Fortier and a sister, Elaine G. Hutchins.
A memorial service will be conducted on Monday June 23, 2014 at 4 P.M. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney. Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp will officiate. A Graveside service will take place on Tuesday June 24, 2014 at 10 A.M. at Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph.
