Allen D. Fortier,83, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at his home following a period of failing health. Born in Waterbury, CT October 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Oscar E. and Mary Elizabeth (Camron) Fortier. Allen was a retired truck driver for Whipple Transportation. He had served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Post # 50 American Legion of Castleton, the Eagles of Fair Haven , the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Young at Heart Senior Center. Allen was a Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed NASCAR. Surviving family members include his wife, Linda VanLew of Poultney; one son Frank E. Fortier and his wife Martha of Irvine, CA; one daughter, Connie Munukka of Derby; two stepsons, James Shaw and his wife Danielle of North Granville and Mark Shaw of Rutland; two stepdaughters, Lisa Bizon and her husband Mike of Hubbardton and Melissa Morgan of Fair Haven; one brother, Oscar E. Fortier of California; three sisters, Elizabeth of Florida, Mary Katherine Kay of Florida and Rita of Hampton, NY; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren and one great grandson. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Frank E. , John T. and Lewis C. Fortier and a sister, Elaine G. Hutchins. A memorial service will be conducted on Monday June 23, 2014 at 4 P.M. at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave., Poultney. Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp will officiate. A Graveside service will take place on Tuesday June 24, 2014 at 10 A.M. at Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of ones choice.
