Obituary

ALAN WILLIAMS EAST POULTNEY- Alan D. Williams, 70, a longtime resident, died Friday, August 29, 2014 at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Born in Rutland July 7, 1944, he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Veronica A. (Steward) Williams. Alan was a graduate of Poultney High School. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a retired pipefitter and was a member of the Pipefitter Union. He was employed by Cotter Inc. in Danvers, MA. There he worked with stainless steel pipe and tubing and automatic orbital welding. His employer was the first to introduce this process in this country and he was one of his first two employees. He also was employed in chip manufacturing for DEC, Genzyme Genetics and Biopure. He then moved onto industrial pipe fitting for schools, factories, fire departments, town halls boiler installation, power plants and xray welding. In retirement years he had operated Poultney Taxi. He was a kind, hardworking man and enjoyed electronics, computers and machinery. Surviving family members include his wife of five years, Julie Ann (Catindoy) Williams of East Poultney; one son, Vern Stevens and his wife Candy of Cape Coral, FL. and two grandchildren, Zachary Stevens and Devan Stevens of Cape Coral, FL. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Evelyn Anne Williams. A private graveside service will be held in October at the Poultney Cemetery.
