Lila M. West

Lila West, 100, died Sunday morning, January 20, 2013 at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born January 19, 1913 in Winhall, VT the daughter of the late Ernest and Cressie (Carruth) Capen.

She lived, worked and raised her family in the local area.

She is survived by her daughters; Jean Carroll of Lodi, CA, Elizabeth Bernhardt of Ashby, MA, Winnie Stahlmann of Millville, NJ, Alice Brindise of Granville, NY, Marjorie Tarasovich and Janice Jones both of Wells; two sons, William and Walter West both of Wells; a special niece, Iva Liebig; twenty one grandchildren; thirty four great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lila was predeceased by her husband Harry West in June of 1963, by her daughter Patricia in December 1972 , by her son Warren in August 2010, her sister, Alice Cody and her brothers, George and Adelbert Capen, her step brothers, Lester, William and Clifford Cody.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be a graveside service in North End Cemetery in Peru, VT at the convenience of her family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse and Hospice at 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701 , or to the Granville Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 153, Granville, NY 12832

On behalf of Lila’s family they would like to express grateful appreciation and thanks for the exceptional kindness and care provided by Rutland Area Visiting Nurse and Hospice, Dr. Michael Scovner, the Staff at Indian River Nursing Home and the caring volunteer and rescue workers. The services provided allowed Lila to enjoy the comfort of her own home at the end of her life.
