Carolyn E. Grant

POULTNEY- Carolyn E. Grant, 74, a longtime resident of Poultney, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at The Pines of Rutland. Born July 7, 1938 in Dover, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Ellen (Willadsen) Childs. Her family lived and worked on the Osborndale Farms in Derby, CT, which is now known as Osborndale State Park. Carolyn graduated from Derby High School in Derby, CT. Before retiring, Carolyn worked as an administrative assistant with Journal Press of Poultney. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of East Poultney and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed riding her bicycle, working in her garden and playing Scrabble with her friends. Her greatest love was Bluegrass Gospel music. She attended Bluegrass festivals and played stand-up bass. Surviving family members include her son, Steven DeLisle and his wife Sharon of Rutland; a brother William Childs from Cross Hill, South Carolina and a sister, Mary Sosenko; one grandchild Bethany Mazzariello-Peer, two great grandchildren, Jaryn and Westin as well as several nephews, and great nephews and nieces, and her beloved dog Annie. She was predeceased by her second husband, Kenneth A. Grant in 1998. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am, Saturday September 1st, 2012 at the United Baptist Church of East Poultney with the Rev. Mark E. Heiner officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Poultney Cemetery.
